Working from home during the pandemic creates many challenges for staying focused and getting things done. If you have housemates or kids, then the importance of carving out time and space for work is all the more essential.
Here are 5 fabulous tips to help you survive working from home during the pandemic:
- Claim a workroom or space for yourself—Not everyone has access to a spare room to set up as an office space, but if you can designate a corner of a room or claim a couch to use as your work area regularly, it will help you to stay focused. Sitting in an upright chair at a table is preferable, but any space can be adapted.
- Wear noise-canceling headphones—Listening to white noise or relaxing music with headphones can help drown out distractions in your environment and help you to focus on your work.
- Keep a regular schedule as much as possible—While older kids are more amenable to adapting to a parent’s work schedule, you’ll have to be more creative to deal with the distractions and needs of any youngsters and accept that you may need to have the phone in one hand while changing diapers or making snacks.
- Communication is key—Let housemates and family members know when you have an important conference call coming up and that everyone needs to please be quiet.
- Stop working—Try to stop working at a set time each day to avoid work hours creeping into the evening. Finish the last task and start again in the morning.
