Warts are from the human papillomavirus, a common microbe found in abundance wherever people congregate. Protecting yourself from contact with these microbes will help prevent getting warts. A painful type of foot wart is called a plantar wart. These larger warts grow in the plantar fascia, on the bottom of the foot, and can hide under thick skin. See your foot doctor for proper treatment of plantar warts.
● Keep your feet clean and dry to deter microbes—Wash your feet with mild soap and warm water every day. Dry your feet and wear clean, moisture-wicking socks. Breathable footwear will also help keep your feet dry and microbe-free, as will medicated foot powders.
● Warts are contagious—Warts can spread from one area to another and to other people, so try to avoid cross-contact.
● Protect your feet—The virus that causes warts is common in public areas. Wearing foot protection like shower shoes or sandals when using gym locker rooms and pool areas can help prevent contact with potentially dangerous microbes.
If you have a painful bump on the bottom of your foot hidden under thick skin, then you may have a plantar wart that needs attention from your foot doctor.
